Reiki Share

Hi All,

Happy Valentines Day - I hope you're having a good February.  Things are going well here...getting a little warm early.  I can't complain though, I know the East and North are getting a lot of severe cold right now.  Stay warm up there folks.

Today I'd like to highlight a favorite of mine...my monthly Reiki Shares.  My biz, Holistic Therapy Solutions, LLC has teamed up with Kathy Miller of OMBodyworks to host monthly Reiki Shares.  We trade months - this month it's in my office, next month it'll be at hers.  I'm in West Central Phoenix and she's more on the West side of Phoenix.

Our next event

You may not be familiar with this kind of thing and wonder, what is it?  First, Reiki, is an energy work, healing modality.  Reiki is a full therapeutic healing system, but at a very basic level, you allow Universal Energy (thats everywhere), to flow thru you and into the client, for the client's benefit.  This energy promotes healing, relaxation and well being. It's gentle and soothing and can be a profound experience for the client.  It's very relaxing and can be very healing.

A Reiki Share is an event where practitioners come together to share Reiki with each other.  We take turns giving and receiving Reiki Therapy treatments with each other.  One person (the client), lies on the table and 2 to 4 practitioners give them a Reiki treatment.  When finished, we rotate.   We may have a few tables of folks working at a time.

Reiki Precepts - by Dr. Mikao Usui - founder of Reiki

Reiki Shares are a lot of fun.  It's an opportunity to practice in a non-judgmental place.  Not everyone is a professional therapist and may not have a place to practice regularly.  It's also a great place to meet some folks who practice this healing art as well.  I've made many friends this way and am grateful for it.  It's also a great opportunity to receive a Reiki treatment from 3 or 4 people at the same time.  It can assist with healing, pain and stress relief, and is very soothing.

There's also a place for folks who don't have experience, but are curious.  We welcome them as well.  Kathy and I meet with newcomers at 6pm to give a short intro to energy and energy work.  We'll also answer questions and encourage them to participate in the Share as well.  Also - we welcome practitioners of other energy modalities.  We have some folks who regularly come and practice CranialSacral or other modalities.

Our next Share is at my shop - Holistic Therapy Solutions, LLC in Phoenix, AZ.  It's a "by donation" event (no set price and donations help to cover expenses).  We will have some refreshments and we hold the Share from 6:30 - 8:30PM.  The date is the 21st of February.  Come join us if you'd like.

I hope you all have a great week and maybe we'll see you at the Share.

Public Healing Day

Hi All,

Well, it's been quite a night and morning here in Phoenix.  We've had our most rainy day on record (rain last night and this morning).  It came down good and caused much damage from flooding all over town.  I'm so grateful that we haven't sustained any injury to family or property.  Hopefully we don't get too much more rain today.

Hopefully your week is starting out well.  Enjoy the week - if you're working this week, have a great work week.  If you are in or around Phoenix, come check out the Public Healing Day at Beyond Today Co (where I rent space, to practice massage and holistic therapy).  Let me explain the details.

Facebook and social media advertisement

We're holding the public healing day on the 4th of October, from 11am - 4pm.  The day will have holistic practitioners that work out of Beyond Today co. coming together to provide mini sessions, for donation only.  The mini sessions will be 20-30 minutes.  The modalities include Massage, Reiki, Re-connective Healing, CranioSacral Therapy, Reflexology, Toe Reading, Intuitive Readings, Hypnotherapy and Guided Imagery.

You can come to try one specific therapy or practitioner, or try all.  You may find yourself moving towards wellness or find much relief from physical and/or emotional pain - without the side effects that often accompany other things (won't name anything).

Flier for the event

I hope you'll come join us on the 4th of October.  Also - come schedule a massage or other holistic therapy, today!

Have a great week folks.  Be present, enjoy today - whatever you're doing.  And - be kind to others....all of them (not just your friends).

Peace,

Tom

New Office at Beyond Today Co.

Hi All,

As most of you know, I'm an artist and designer and have been for many years.  I'm also a holistic healthcare practitioner.  I've been doing massage and other therapies for a while now after I graduated from the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts with an Associates Degree in Holistic Healthcare.

Recently, my friend and colleague, Susan Webber, introduced me to the folks at Beyond Today Co (BT).  BT is a business run by Rod Lyman and Cleo Daily where Rod performs holistic therapies and massage, and they also hold classes and events regularly.  Susan and I were looking to use their classroom for the smoking cessation group we're putting together.  Well, one thing let to another - and I and Susan ended up renting a room to work out of.

A view of the Beyond Today Center near I-17 and Cactus Blvd in Phoenix

Beyond Today (BT), is a great place to work out of.  There's a number of therapists that provide a wide range of therapeutic body work, energy work, and intuitive services.  The atmosphere is nice and peaceful as well.

By the front reception area, there's a little store where you
can purchase a variety of essential oils or other products.

I'm working every Tuesday and Thursday at BT.  I'm also working some Wed and Sat - call or schedule thru schedulicity for an appointment.

My room on left, hallway on right

Very good energy here.  The place is clean and the room is nice size for doing therapy work.

The classroom.  It can hold over 70 people - and they've already filled
it for events.

There's a large classroom at BT as well.  Tonight Susan and I start our first Tobacco Freedom smoking cessation group.  It's a group for quitting tobacco that includes the use of hypnotherapy.  It's going to be awesome!!  Early next month Rod and I are going to teach a class together.  It'll be a Reflexology and Acupressure for the hands class.  He'll teach the Acupressure part and I'll do the Reflexology.  They're bringing in Yoga soon and they have a number of events and classes continually.

My room - massage table and therapy chair

So call or come by soon.  Book now for a massage, reflexology, or other body/mind/energy work.  See you soon.

A little bit about Cranial Sacral

Hey All,

How's it going?  We made it to hump day...Wednesday.  So today I want to talk about a modality near and dear to my heart...Cranial Sacral Therapy.  I love Cranial Sacral!  I really enjoy doing it - it's so slow sometimes it's like watching paint dry, but it's challenging and rewarding as well.

So what is it?  It's an energetic therapy. It comes out of the Osteopathic medicine tradition.  John Upledger, D.O., really brought it to where it is in this country today.  He came across it unintentionally and developed the modality, also conducting research on it, to prove it works.  Much of the research he did was at Michigan State University.

So - I digress a little...what is it?  In Cranial Sacral Therapy (or Cranial), we work with the cerebrospinal system.  The spinal fluid flows up and down around the spine and brain, into the ventricles of the brain and out.  It's enclosed by 3 layers of meninges - they keep the fluid from leaking (almost like a rubber bladder).  Also, we work with connective tissue (fascia), the bones of the cranium, and some other structural and energy work on the body.

As the cerebrospinal fluid pulses up and down the spine, around the brain and in and out of the ventricles of the brain, it gives off a wave...in and out.  With a little training and practice, you can feel/observe the cranial wave.  The very act of observing this wave can be very profound and help the client heal.  Like the tests many years ago, when scientists were shooting x-rays under controlled conditions to look at the patterns.  What they found out (by accident), was that the patterns were different when someone observed vs. when nobody observed.  And...when you change the energy...things change, and can heal.

There's much more to it, though.  Everything in the body is surrounded by connective tissue called fascia.  Over time, the fascia (super thin and strong), can "wind" up and create tension patterns or holding patterns.  Many times these holding patterns are a result of some trauma.  We can release the fascia with...you guessed it - a fascial release technique.  A very light touch - taking the fascia where it will go.  You move it, release it.

I haven't even gotten to the cranium and working with the bones.  But - I've got to go.  I have a reflexology client coming soon.

Gotta go - take care and have a great day everyone.

Peace,

Tom

Usui Sensei Artwork

Hi All,

I'd like to show my latest piece of artwork today...a portrait of Mikao Usui.  I titled it, "Usui Sensei."

One of the bodywork modalities I practice in my holistic therapy practice is Reiki.  Mikao Usui is the person who "developed" Reiki.  Stories vary, I'll let you do your homework on it, but in brief, he discovered/was given reiki while on a 21 day trip up on Mount Kurama in Japan in the early 1900s.

Final Artwork - 15"x15"- available as giclee print

photo of Mikao Usui

Reiki is an energy work modality.  You apply Universal Life Energy - commonly referred to as Ki, thru your hands to your client.  It's great work - soothing and can be so healing on many levels.  Beautiful stuff!

I produced this on a 6 yr old I-Mac with 4Gb Ram and Photoshop CS3.  I started with a sepia tone and built up Master Usui's image in layers.  Each layer a different color (e.g.: red, black, yellow, orange, etc).

And, it started to come together, looking a little more lifelike.

I wanted a little bit of Mount Kurama and sky in the background.  Very basic, but at this point all that I really wanted to have in the picture.

I then used some really cool textured brushes to build up a really nice texture around the portrait. (at least I like the texture - some may not, and that's ok).  In the end, I had over 20 layers....then I flatten it all down.  Now one key to working in the textures is working with a certain level of transparency in the brush itself and then I may or may not adjust the layer transparency.  Really adjusting to what I feel is right for the piece.

Finally, I add the Japanese Kanji symbols that spell Reiki, and put the finishing touches on it.  I'll be selling giclee canvas prints at 15"x15," or 18x18.
I hope you enjoyed the tutorial and artwork.  Also - call me if you would like a reiki session also...it's so good.
Take care and have a great week everyone.
Peace,
Tom
