Hi All,
I'm back...it's been a while since I wrote a new blog entry. It's been a busy summer - lots going on.
Today I'd like to outline some recent changes at Holistic Therapy Solutions, LLC.
First: we have a new location. I'm moving into nice therapy room by 36th Street and Shea Blvd, here in Phoenix. I really enjoyed the Pointe Business Plaza office, but practitioner that I was sharing office space with moved out of state and the new location is a more practical solution for the business at this time. It's a nice comfortable space, and I've seen some clients in it already. I'm still working on a few updates to the room, so I'll post photos when it's completed.
I'm also changing the schedule. I'll be available for appointments on Thurs, Fri, and Saturdays.
Some of these changes are the result of another change in my career path. Last fall I went back to school to become certified as an Emergency Medical Technician. It's a 9 credit hour course - one semester. I finished and became a certified, licensed EMT. About 3 months ago I started working at a drug and alcohol crisis center. We work with anyone who walks in the door, mostly homeless folks. We have the crisis unit and also a detox center. It's difficult work sometimes, but overall I enjoy it and it's fulfilling work. The company I work for has a lot of resources throughout the city and state, and they help people get sober and get their lives back. I like being a part of that.
I still love assisting people with massage, reiki and cranial sacral therapy as well. I'm just making a few changes to balance things out. I'm still providing the same excellent level of customer service and the same high quality body work. If you're looking for relaxation and stress relief or a more targeted therapy - I'm still happy and excited to be providing help.
I hope you're all having a great summer (or winter, if you're in the southern hemisphere). There's still plenty to do, to help in your local communities. Be kind, be grateful, and give a smile to a stranger - that may help them more than you'll ever know.
If you're in Phoenix - call, text, or email for an appointment.

Holistic Therapy Solutions - A Closer Look
Hi All,
I hope everything is going well for you. It's been a whirlwind several months. I've been in the new office for a while now, but I also enrolled in and recently passed an Emergency Medical Technician course. My mother in law and sister in law came to live with us at the same time, and my mother in law was able be comfortable and well cared for, in her final few months of life (we'll miss you Kathy - she was a wonderful part of our family). It was a very busy and sometimes crazy time, but it was a gift to be able to spend this time with my mother in law.
As things are changing and resolving a bit, I realize I need to get back to focusing more on my business - Holistic Therapy Solutions. Although I've been working and seeing clients, one of the things I never really did was properly show the new office and facilities. So let me introduce Holistic Therapy Solutions, LLC in it's new/current location. About 8 months ago I moved offices to the Pointe Business Plaza in the northeast part of Phoenix (16th Street near Glendale Ave).
The Pointe Business Plaza is a nice, well maintained, clean and comfortable business/office complex on 16th Street, right off the State Route 51. I share office space with Naturopathic Physician, Dr. Katie Nuckolls. We also share the office suite with three wonderful Licensed Professional Counselors. If you need any of their services, I highly recommend all four.
It really is a comfortable office and when you arrive, there's a waiting area with comfy furniture and a nice relaxing space.
Book an appointment soon. Therapies include massage, craniosacral, and reiki. I'm also available to consult on other holistic topics if you're interested. I want to help, whether you need a nice relaxing session or you want to heal from injury or illness. I also can bring chair massage to your office or event - always a nice perk for hard working employees or event guests.
In the coming weeks I'll be discussing some of the therapies we provide and how they can assist with your health. I'm also going to be outlining some of the new therapy options that you may find to be just what you need.
The office is at 7227 N. 16th Street in Phoenix, Suite 213. Call, text or email for an appointment. My website has all the info - www.HolisticTherapySolutions.weebly.com
I hope your year is off to a great start. This year - treat yourself well and kind. Treat yourself with the love and respect, that you would treat others with. Be kind to others as well...everyone needs that. Together, we can make a difference. Have a wonderful week.
Peace,
Tom

Cranial Unwinding...Amazing Holistic Therapy
Hi Everyone,
Happy New Year! 2017 is here and I feel that it's going to be a good one. I hope you're feeling well and enjoying the start of this new year.
One thing I'd like to do is to get back to blogging again. I know there are a lot of folks who are hurting physically or psychologically. There are many healing treatments and therapies available that can provide outstanding results. I offer a few that can be very beneficial. Today I'd like to highlight one: CranioSacral Therapy, (also known as Cranial Unwinding). The following is the text taken from a flier that I put together, to educate folks on this healing modality. I hope this helps.
What is CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral therapy is an energetic bodywork modality. We work with the cranium, cerebro-spinal system, and connective tissue systems of the body. Thru tuning in to these systems, palpation and other light touch therapeutic techniques, we can help you release physical, mental, and emotion imbalances resulting from stress and trauma.
What is the Cerebro-Spinal System and Connective Tissue?
Cerebro-spinal system is comprised of the brain, spinal cord, the fluid that flows in and out and around these, and the membranes that surround them and contain them.
Connective Tissue is fascia. It surrounds and is in muscles, around bones and organs, under our skin…it give us our shape and hold us together.
How does this help?
The brain and nervous system are the computer and sensory systems that “run” the body, and our mental and emotional selves. They’re subjected to stress and strain on a daily basis. Sometimes they’re damaged or out of balance from trauma. These can result in restrictions around the brain and spinal cord and in connective tissue throughout the body. When these systems get out of balance, damaged, or restricted we feel pain; physical and emotional.
Cranial Sacral Therapy is an energy work modality that can be very helpful for people who have struggled with various forms of trauma and stress. This gentle energetic therapy can be very healing and can help you to come back to place of balance in your body and life.
Sometimes, (using the computer analogy), this therapy is like a “re-boot,” to the system; helping to bring back balance and wellness. Also – there’s a physical unwinding aspect. This therapy helps to release and unwind areas in the Cerebro-spinal system where flow is restricted and also helps release holding patterns in connective tissue…both result in helping the body function in a more balanced way.
I've worked with several military veterans who have suffered from Post Traumatic Brain Injury and Traumatic Brain Injuries. This calming and natural therapy has always been helpful to release some of the tension and pressure that remain long after the tour of duty.
..............................................................................................................................................................
If you feel this therapy can be beneficial for you, let me know. I'd be happy to discuss it or set up an appointment for you. I'm located in Phoenix, AZ. Call, email, or text for an appointment.
We're in a time of new beginnings...with the new year, we tend to start fresh again. If you're suffering, and you're ready to try something different - this may be a solution for you. Be good to yourself and love yourself...you're worth it. Have a great 2017.
Peace,
Tom

New Home for Holistic Therapy Solutions
Hi All,
I hope things are going well for you - wherever you're reading this. It's been an interesting month. I've been busy with artwork and had a busy month with the holistic therapy biz. I've been enjoying the nice weather and family and friends as well. The month hasn't been without it's hiccups though.
In the middle of the month, I found myself looking for a new place to run Holistic Therapy Solutions out of. I was renting a room and I was assured I would have 24/7 access to the room. However - at the prodding of another tenant, a policy was put in place that severely restricted my access to serving clients in the evenings and on Saturdays. Of course, I needed to move the business again.
The first person that came to mind was a friend of mine - Ray Kopakowski. He's a clinical hypnotherapist. One of his specialties is working with professional and amateur athletes, to help them with performance enhancement. He also is owner of Inner Power Hypnotherapy located on 19th Ave, just north of Camelback, in Phoenix. Sure enough - he had a room available and I moved in the end of February.
It's a nice place and a good location. It's convenient to downtown and major freeways. The light rail runs right up 19th Ave and down Camelback. Of course, it's in Northwest Phoenix, but quickly accessible to the East side of town...even Scottsdale.
If you need a good massage, craniosacral therapy, reflexology, reiki, or hypnotherapy - give me a call, text, or email and we'll get you an appointment set up, right away. I'm here to serve - and once again - have a business home where I can do that. Of course, I still do out calls if you'd rather I bring the table to you.
So, sometimes life is an interesting ride. Lots of fun, mixed in good work, and even some surprises - not all welcome surprises. But, I know it always works out for my best and highest good. Of course there's always a lesson in all of it. Sometimes its just an opportunity to have faith...faith in God, faith in the process, and know it'll work out. Today I'm very grateful - I'm blessed in so many many ways...and grateful for the opportunity to find, what I'm expecting will be the home of Holistic Therapy Solutions, for a good long while.
Have a great week everyone.
Peace,
Tom

First, as of 1 February, I've moved full time into a new location near 24th Ave and Peoria Ave....right around the corner from Beyond Today(my previous location).
I'm renting my own therapy room in Healing Heart Creations. I'm really excited to offer more scheduling options. Since I'm not sharing space anymore, it provides much more scheduling flexibility.

Phoenix, 85029
Upcoming Events:
I've been doing regular Reiki/Energy Shares for a while now. I'm going to continue that, once a month. I know there's a lot going on right now - so make time for yourself. Take a walk, meditate, go to a movie...and massage or holistic therapy is excellent as well. If you're feeling good; it's good maintenance. If not, my therapies are very therapeutic and can be very healing. What ever you do - make the decision to take good care of yourself - today.
Call, Text, or Email me for a session.
Peace and Love,

Cranial Sacral Therapy - Incredible!
Hi All,
How's things? Things are pretty good here in Arizona. It's cooling off a little - mornings and evenings are especially beautiful. It's good to have a little break after a long hot summer.
One therapy that I really enjoy helping people with, is Craniosacral Therapy. It can provide such amazing relief for people in so many ways. As I was thinking about the blog today, I decided to check the web and see if I could find something on this topic.
Below is a description and information about CranioSacral, that I found on the Upledger Institute's website. Dr. Upledger was an amazing pioneer in this field and I love his book, Your Inner Physician and You.
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.
By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:

What a nice little description and list of medical issues that can be helped with CranioSacral therapy.
This is a therapy that I provide in my holistic therapy practice. It's so gentle, yet can provide such profound results. Let me know if I can be of assistance. I provide my therapies at prices that most everyone can afford - I don't think these kind of therapies should only be for a select few. I also have a $10 discount for teachers and 20% off for our military Veterans. Check out my website - listed below.
Vets - if you've suffered from a traumatic brain injury, I may be able to provide some much sought after relief. The therapy is also good for PTSD. I've had very good results, working with people who have had head injuries and chronic headaches.
Have a great day everyone. Be good to yourself and others....

CranioSacral Therapy - Traumatic Brain Injury
Hi All,
Hope you've all been having a great week. Things are pretty good here in Phoenix. It's a little on the warm side, but that's summer time in the desert.
One of the holistic therapy modalities I practice is CranioSacral Therapy (CST). It's an energetic body work modality that can help provide dramatic results. There are many aspects to it, but the main ones are working with the client's cranium, spinal column, cerebrospinal fluid, and connective tissue.
The cerebrospinal fluid is always pulsing up and down the spinal column, in and around the brain. This fluid pulsing or pumping creates subtle waves which we call the cranial wave. I work with the bones, plates of the cranium, and spine while I'm tuned in to the cranial wave. It's very slow and gentle energy work. This work helps the body to unwind. Everything in the body is wrapped in connective tissue; fascia. Holding patterns develop and when released, they unwind and help to bring the body back to a place of balance and helps the body to heal.
There have been many reports of CST being helpful relieving symptoms from PTSD, Traumatic brain injury and and other issues, including autism. A friend, fellow veteran and CST practitioner recently told me of the tremendous healing he's had when he received CST himself. He had been discharged from the Marine Corps with a traumatic brain injury that he received while in Afghanistan. He described his head feeling "tight" and like his "skull was locked up," and a lot of pressure in his head as a result. The therapy loosened things up and released that pressure. He felt lighter and the pressure in his head had released. It was nothing short of amazing.
I've been doing this work for a couple years now and am continually amazed at the resulting pain relief and healing that clients experience. I've had the privilege to work with some Vets at a couple of retreats over the past year. It's rewarding to be able to help these heroic people who have experienced so much pain and trauma find relief from pain. The little feedback I received was good and that the treatments were helpful and appreciated. Unfortunately, I wasn't afforded the opportunity for follow up.
Recently I was able to work with a young veteran who had been retired from the Army because he'd sustained a traumatic brain injury from an improvised explosive devise that hit the vehicle he was in, driving in Iraq. He also had some back pain.
When he came in for the first session I asked him if he still had symptoms from his injuries or time in Iraq. He said "well, I'm feeling ok, not bad." So we set out to work. The session lasted about an hour and a half.
When finished we sat down to talk. The discussion afterwards was much different than the intake. He reported an amazing release of pressure in the front part of his head. He said that he'd gotten so used to the pressure in that he just figured it was normal for him. After the therapy he felt light and felt very good.
We met two weeks later for another session. We talked for a bit beforehand and he reported that his head had continued to feel good; without the pressure in it that he had for so long. He also noticed that before the first session, he felt like he was a little bit clumsy and just off a little bit with physical coordination. After the first session that coordination issue was gone. He said he felt like he, "was at the top of his game." He was happy to report his head felt great and coordination issue resolved.
We did the second session yesterday and all went well. I was so excited I wanted to share this on my blog. Hopefully there will be more good news like this to come as Vets and other people with traumatic brain injuries find relief with CranioSacral Therapy.
Veterans - if you're in Phoenix and would like to try this therapy, I offer a 50% discount to all Veterans ($25 per session). The beauty of this therapy is that I've never experienced anyone having ill effects from it.
Have a great weekend everyone. Remember - when you help others, you help yourself.
Peace,
Tom

Peace,
Tom

Energy Work Therapy For Veterans
Hi All,
It's Friday! WooHoo!! I hope you've had a good work week. Mine's been pretty good. I've been able to shift gears at work and at home. Today I able to focus on some projects around the house and made some good progress. I'm grateful for that. This weekend - back to work.
I've got an opportunity to go up to the Merritt Center in Payson, AZ, where I'll be working with a group of military veterans. I'll be heading up there tomorrow and providing CranioSacral Therapy for some of the Vets.
The Veterans at this workshop are all combat Veterans and are at the Vets Weekend Retreat to help them heal and leave the trauma of combat in the past. CranioSacral is an amazing energetic therapy that can help the client unwind those "issues in the tissues," and release them. It can help the Vet heal physically and also mentally and emotionally. Of course, with something as traumatic as combat, the physical and emotional healing can be tied very close together but often, when the physical has healed, the mental and emotional pain and trauma remains.
I met Betty Merritt about a year ago. We were attending a focus group in Phoenix to give input on alternative and complementary therapies to the Veterans Administration. Recognizing that allopathic medicine is not always the answer, they're looking at alternatives that may be helpful for our Veterans returning from War. After the focus group, she invited me to come up to her place and provide some therapy for some of the Vets at her retreats. Last time I did some massage, this time I asked if I could do some CranialSacral.
So tomorrow morning, Sue and I will pack up the therapy table and head 100 miles north and east to Payson to the Merritt Center. It's a small retreat center where they have a number of different workshops and retreats throughout the year. Several times a year, they host the Veterans weekends. This is their passion. They invite these combat veterans to attend, free of charge, and offer therapy and groups all weekend long to help these Vets heal.
You can find out more about the Merritt Center at their website:

I'm truly honored to have the opportunity to work with these folks tomorrow and looking forward to it.
Have a great weekend everyone. Be good out there - do great things!
Peace,
Tom

A little bit about Cranial Sacral
Hey All,
How's it going? We made it to hump day...Wednesday. So today I want to talk about a modality near and dear to my heart...Cranial Sacral Therapy. I love Cranial Sacral! I really enjoy doing it - it's so slow sometimes it's like watching paint dry, but it's challenging and rewarding as well.
So what is it? It's an energetic therapy. It comes out of the Osteopathic medicine tradition. John Upledger, D.O., really brought it to where it is in this country today. He came across it unintentionally and developed the modality, also conducting research on it, to prove it works. Much of the research he did was at Michigan State University.
So - I digress a little...what is it? In Cranial Sacral Therapy (or Cranial), we work with the cerebrospinal system. The spinal fluid flows up and down around the spine and brain, into the ventricles of the brain and out. It's enclosed by 3 layers of meninges - they keep the fluid from leaking (almost like a rubber bladder). Also, we work with connective tissue (fascia), the bones of the cranium, and some other structural and energy work on the body.
As the cerebrospinal fluid pulses up and down the spine, around the brain and in and out of the ventricles of the brain, it gives off a wave...in and out. With a little training and practice, you can feel/observe the cranial wave. The very act of observing this wave can be very profound and help the client heal. Like the tests many years ago, when scientists were shooting x-rays under controlled conditions to look at the patterns. What they found out (by accident), was that the patterns were different when someone observed vs. when nobody observed. And...when you change the energy...things change, and can heal.
There's much more to it, though. Everything in the body is surrounded by connective tissue called fascia. Over time, the fascia (super thin and strong), can "wind" up and create tension patterns or holding patterns. Many times these holding patterns are a result of some trauma. We can release the fascia with...you guessed it - a fascial release technique. A very light touch - taking the fascia where it will go. You move it, release it.
I haven't even gotten to the cranium and working with the bones. But - I've got to go. I have a reflexology client coming soon.
Gotta go - take care and have a great day everyone.
Peace,
Tom
