New At Holistic Therapy Solutions

Hi All,

It's a beautiful Friday morning here in Phoenix, AZ as I sit down to write a quick blog post.  It's one of perhaps that last few cool days before the hot Arizona summer takes hold.  So we're enjoying it.

As you may know, I've been in a new location for a few months now.  I rent an office suite with Ray Kopakowski, who is owner/therapist at Inner Power Hypnotherapy.  Recently, Ray and I decided it's time to reach out to the neighborhood and introduce them who we we are and what we do.  Part of that is that we're going to offer some great lunchtime and anytime services.

Flier for Holistic Therapy Solutions

We've developed fliers that we can distribute in the local area that offer some great deals to help with the stress and tension of daily life.  I'm offering Chair Massage Tuesdays - 11:30-1; 15 minute chair massages for $10.  I'm also offering 30 minute lunchtime massages for $20.  These focus primarily on the back, neck, shoulders, and arms.  I also have a coupon for 20% off your first appointment.

Flier for Inner Power Hypnotherapy
My office partner Ray is offering a coupon for a Rapid Lunchtime Induction.  These hypnotherapy sessions can help with stress and tension release, and also weight loss, smoking cessation and other changes that people may want to change in their lives. With coupon it's only $35, ($7.50 off the regular price).

Of course these deals are open to everyone, not just the neighborhood business people.  So stop by on Tuesday for a chair massage, or make an appointment for a rapid induction session or a 30 minute lunchtime massage.  We both still provide all our other services as well.  I'll post both of our websites at the bottom of this post.  Check us out.

Have a great day everyone, wherever you're at.  Enjoy this day - be present in everything you do.

Peace,

Tom

Holistic Therapy Solutions - New Year Updates

Hi All,

Well, we're in the midst of winter here...it's 80 degrees and perfect in Phoenix today.  Sorry - I know up north its pretty cold; I shouldn't rub it in.  This is the season we love the most here - and it'll change soon enough too....but not today.

It's been a busy winter with changes happening in the business and events coming up.  Of course - I'm still providing the work;  Healing and Nurturing Massage, CranioSacral Therapy, Reflexology, Reiki, and Hypnotherapy.

First, as of 1 February, I've moved full time into a new location near 24th Ave and Peoria Ave....right around the corner from Beyond Today(my previous location).
I'm renting my own therapy room in Healing Heart Creations.  I'm really excited to offer more scheduling options.  Since I'm not sharing space anymore, it provides much more scheduling flexibility.
Address:  Healing Heart Creations (my new base of operations)
               2432 W Peoria Ave.
               Bldg 10, Suite 1180
               Phoenix, 85029

Upcoming Events:

I've been doing regular Reiki/Energy Shares for a while now.  I'm going to continue that, once a month.  If you're a practitioner, it's a good place to practice, and if you're new to it, it's a good place to come experience Reiki and learn more about it.  It's very healing, nurturing energy...and we try to have a good time too.
Next share: 26 Feb, 6:30-8:30pm in the classroom at Healing Heart Creations.  Refreshments are provided.  Cost: Donation.

Mindfulness and Meditation Workshop.  5 March, 7-9pm at Healing Heart Creations.
If you'd like more peace and serenity in your life, this may be an event for you.  Learn mindfulness techniques and meditation techniques as well.  It takes some gentle practice, but you can change your mind/thoughts - and change your life...remember - it's all an "inside job."
Cost: $15

Mondays - I've developed a part-time partnership with Lauri Hernandez at, At The Center of You.  It's a shop and holistic center in Wickenburg, AZ.  I'll be providing massage and therapy there on Mondays.  It's a great shop - right next to the old movie theater in the historic district on Hwy 60.  Stop in when in Wickenburg.

I know there's a lot going on right now - so make time for yourself.  Take a walk, meditate, go to a movie...and massage or holistic therapy is excellent as well.  If you're feeling good; it's good maintenance.  If not, my therapies are very therapeutic and can be very healing.  What ever you do - make the decision to take good care of yourself - today.

Call, Text, or Email me for a session.

Peace and Love,

Tom

Having Difficulties on the Scale?

Hi All,

Hope you're all doing great out there.  Summer is winding down.  I hope it was a good one for you.  Personally, I'm still enjoying the warm Phoenix weather, but I'm ready for a little cooler weather too.

Today I would like to talk about releasing the extra weight some of us carry around.  Of course we know that you need to eat less, and move the body more and you will probably drop the pounds, right? But there's a little more to it for most of us and maybe a more holistic or complete approach is what we need.

flier for Holistic Weight Management with Hypnotherapy Group

Sometimes the change is not quite so simple.  If it was, none of us would be overweight.  One thing we need is to bring a desire to change.  Do you want to be healthy and fit?  Do you drop the extra pounds that do not serve you?  Well, if you have desire and some dedication, you can do it.

We need to change our relationship to food.   Hypnotherapy can be a big help with that.  We can change our view of food and beliefs about it.  We love food and desire to eat healthy food in the amounts we need to power this body....thru hypno, we can internalize this.  We train ourselves to desire good food in the right quantities.

We also want to change our view of ourselves.  We are all beautiful, in a beautiful, wonderful amazing body, but sometimes we don't believe it or know it.  We want to take care of this wondrous vessel.  We can train ourselves to enjoy feeding it good food and exercising it.  We can eat in moderation if we want.  We can exercise it more also - either way, we learn to and train ourselves, easily and gently, to care for our body and love our body.

All of this is fine - but if we don't remove the blocks to this, we won't really make meaningful change.  So we address the reasons why we eat the way we do; the emotional eating, insecurities, etc.  We need to get to the bottom of this and release those old emotional blocks that keep us trapped in the old habits and patterns...and we can do that.

Of course - in the group we continue to learn a little about holistic nutrition each week and support each other and share tips and foods that are working well in our personal journeys.

I got up early this morning and wrote a new hypnosis script that I will share tonight with the group.  It follows these themes.  I also provide a self hypnosis CD to attendees.  It's good for reinforcing the changes between group meetings.  I'll be recording the new script as well.

If you're in the Phoenix area - come by and join us tonight at 5:30 or on another Thursday soon.  I also work with people one on one, if a group isn't your preference.

Have a great day out there.  Enjoy those bodies - eat well, think well, and move it too.

Blessings,

Tom

At the Center of You - Logo

Hi All,

Wow - it's been a busy couple of weeks.  Between holistic therapy work, this logo, and some other stuff....it's been a quick, busy time (and a good time).  It's really good to be busy sometimes.

So a lady named Laurie hired me to do a logo for her business, a couple weeks ago.  The biz, At the Center of You, is her new business.  She's opening it in Wickenberg, AZ.  Wickenberg is kind of a cowboy town about 70 miles NW of Phoenix.  Her business consists of her life coaching, hypnotherapy, and other holistic modalities, plus a little merchandise for sale.  It's also a very unique business in that town with a large potential.

So we sat down and started brainstorming.  What we came up with was the image of a horse sitting on a mat with legs crossed meditating.  It bridges the gap between the holistic/spiritual aspect of the biz and the old west feel of the town.  It was fun how we really clicked and both came to this idea really quickly.

Pencil sketch of the logo design for "At the Center of You"

First I sketched the cartoon horse logo and she approved, right away.  She was very pleased.

Pen and Ink - complete with coffee spill.

Next I drew the illustrated master drawing in pen and ink.  I even spilled coffee on it (as you can see in the photo).  My scanner is out of commission - so I start working in the computer, on the pen and ink photo.

drawing the black and erasing the white - in progress

I took the photo into Photoshop.  Selected All, and copied and pasted on to a new layer.  I colored the base layer completely orange and started defining the illustration by erasing the white on layer two.  I used the pen tool and would draw a path around an area, color it black, select the area, select inverse and erase the white around each section.  Hope that doesn't sound confusing.  I know it's definitely not the industry standard way of doing things, but that's ok.  It works.

black and white logo complete.

When I got the nice crisp black and white picture done, I saved the layers and starting adding layers under the black and white layer, and began adding color.  Laurie gave me her business card, told me it reflected her personality - and asked for the logo to be reflective of that.  The card had a robin egg blue color with a script type style for her name and a light san serif type style for the rest of the text.

adding sky color

So I started adding color to the background.  Trying to be consistent with the feeling of Laurie as reflected in her business card.

working on the horse.

Once completed, I did spend a little time, tweaking the color a bit, and then formatting both black and white and color, for both print and for electronic/web use.

Completed logo design

Again - this was a fun job.  I enjoyed working on it and the style of cartoon type logo, is really in my wheelhouse.  She was happy with the logo and it really met all of her criteria.

That's it for now.  Enjoy the coming week.  Be present and enjoy those around you.  Enjoy being with yourself as well.

Peace,

Tom

Nutritional Facts

Hi All,

Well I just finished a pretty good Monday.  I was busy doing massage and energy work today.  It was mostly a surprise too.  Very Nice...happy to be able to help.

On Thursday evenings at 5pm, I lead a Holistic Weight Management group.  The components include, nutritional information, group support, and each week I do a group hypnosis session.  I also provide a hypno CD that folks can take home an listen to on their own in between....all for $15 per week - no sign ups or membership - just come if you are having issues with your weight.

If you're ready to make some changes around food - this is the way to do it (In my humble opinion).

Today I'd like to share a little nutritional info I've come across recently.
This is pretty alarming information about sugar...

Refined Sugar - High Fructose Corn Syrup

 - Recommended no more than 1 pound per month
            1 tsp sugar = 4.2 gram
            453 gm = 1 lb
            1 12 oz soda = 10 tsb of sugar
            1 - 2 liter soda = 1/2 lb of sugar
US govt estimates each person averages 741 lbs of Sugar intake per year.

Almonds...I eat these pretty regularly.

- high in Omega 3 fatty acids
- High in Vitamin E
- concentrated source of oxalates - good source of calcium
- Promote Healthy Heart, Weight, Digestive Syst, and Gallbladder
- Keep refrigerated

A little info about Vitamin D

- Needed for strong bones - helps the body absorb Calcium
Good Sources
- Fatty Fish -- Wild Salmon, Tuna, Mackerel are best
- Mushrooms, Egg Yolks, Cheese
- Milk, Yogurt, Cereal - it's added in them
- Sunlight

and...Flaxseed.  I do have some ground flaxseed.  Good stuff!

- Great source of fiber
- most concentrated plant source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids
-- the heart healthy nutrients that also have snit-inflammatory properties
- contain phytoestrogens - estrogen precursors found in plants known as lignans.  they help to balance estrogen levels in the body and also have antioxidant properties.

So each week I find a few little nutritional nuggets that can be incorporated into your diet a little at a time.  Moderation is key.

Have a great week folks.  Lets make it a good one.  Do something nice for someone.

Peace,

Tom

Hypnotherapy and Weight Loss Group

Hi All,

Wow - time is flying.  It's been a very busy year so far.  It's been a very warm winter here in Phoenix too.  Sometimes I forget how severe the winter has been in most of the US here and in other parts of the world as well.  In any event, I hope you're having a good week.

I'm in my office preparing for a hypnosis group that I host on Thursday afternoons.  It's called the, Holistic Weight Management with Hypnosis, group.  I host it here at my Beyond Today Co. office in Phoenix, AZ.  So far we've been a small group, but big in spirit and desire to reach and maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle.

Here's how it works - we take an holistic approach to weight management.  What are some of the reasons you may overeat, or binge, or eat poorly?  Do you exercise - may want to look at what your doing, possibly increasing - or not.  Do you have a goal?

The group environment is a great support system - we lift each other up, share victories, what's working for us, etc.  I bring some ideas with me as well about holistic nutrition.  Tonight I'm discussing refined sugar, Almonds, and info about Vitamin D.

Did you know the total recommended consumption of refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup is less than 1 lb per month? 1 tsp = 4.2 gram.  453 grams = lb. 2-2liter sodas is equal to 1 lb of sugar.  Remember - so many processed foods are full of sugar and high fructose corn syrup as well.

In the group we do a couple other things as well.  We're going to work to reprogram the subconscious mind.  Each week, I'll lead a group hypnotherapy session.  We'll do this thru removing some of the obstacles that may be in the way of the members success.  We'll program the mind to desire healthy foods in portions that are adequate to maintain a healthy body, and to want to increase exercise, and reach your goals in a healthy way.

The hypnosis is a powerful tool for weight loss/behavior modification and it's a very safe and easy technique.  How many of us have struggled with this very issue?  I know I have and I'm taking the journey with my group.  As long as you have a desire to lose the extra pounds, you can do this and it will work.

Well - people are going to start showing up soon so I've got to go.  Stay happy and healthy out there.  Be kind to others - and - be kind to yourself.  Your worth it.  Until next time....

Peace,

Tom

Thoughts on Meditation

Hi All,

Hope your week is going great.  I'm having a pretty good week here in beautiful Phoenix, AZ.  The weather is cooling down a bit (low 100s), and even cooler at night.

Lately the topic of meditation has come up several times.  Just last night a friend was telling me about his new practice of meditation that his girlfriend helped him start, and how it's really helped him to be more calm and relaxed.  It's so good for that.

I've been thinking about starting a Wednesday afternoon meditation class/group.  I rent space to run my massage/therapy biz at a place called Beyond Today Co., here in Phoenix.  I was thinking a group would be great to help people who would like to try meditation, but feel like they can't on their own.  It would also be a good place for experienced meditators to come and share about their meditation practice, what they do, how it's going, etc.  And - we'd also do a group meditation every week as well.

So why would you want to meditate?  There are lots of reasons; better health for one; Physically and mentally.  For me personally it's a recharge and a reset.  It gives me a good recharge of energy - helps me really get going on as little as 15 to 20 minutes of deep rest or meditation.  Thomas Edison was famous for his 15 minute recharging "power naps."

It also is like a "reset," for the body, or like a "reboot."  When you reboot the computer it resets everything, helps all the little programing that get out of whack, get back into place and running at more efficient levels.  Meditation does that for the body and mind.  It calms you down, lowers blood pressure, and relieves stress.  It also helps in the same way mentally to quiet the mind chatter down and help you feel more peaceful.  Life is hectic and fast paced - when we get stressed out even the little things can start to bother us, and then we may even obsess about them.  Meditation helps to quiet that down.  After meditating I'll usually wonder why I even gave any of those crazy thoughts energy to begin with.

So what can we do to start?  It can be so healing to just start with 15 minutes a day of relaxing and quieting down the body and mind.  You can talk to yourself with that inner voice - tell yourself, guide yourself to relax.  Relax your body a piece at a time and get into a nice breathing rhythm.  Focus on your breathing and when you get distracted by some passing thoughts, come back to your breathing and focus on it.  Everything is connected...if you are thinking good thoughts, you'll naturally feel better.  If you're thinking about all the junk going on in the world and obsessing about things that are out of your control...it will make you feel worse.  That's just common sense right?  So when you meditate, you take the focus off of the negativity and impulsive thoughts - and into a good peaceful direction.  Simple.

Now I know some folks that may be concerned that meditation is related to a spiritual practice or religion that they don't want to be affiliated with.  Yes, there are meditation practices that are taken from various religions.  However - you can create your own practice, just like I described above.  People of all walks of life know that taking a quick power nap, or closing their eyes and resting for a little bit can be very rejuvenating.  That's meditation, it's just not labelled as meditation.  However, the results are the same.

So if you can, take a few minutes out of your day and take a little rest.  Relax your body and mind.  Who knows, it may help keep you out of the doctors office or help you feel a little more balanced.

Take care everyone and have a wonderful weekend.  Be kind to others...and be nice to yourself.  Treat yourself with the same kindness that you would extend to your friends.

Peace,

Tom

Article about using Hypnotherapy to Quit Smoking

Hi All,

As I've mentioned in a previous post, my colleague and I are going to be leading a hypno based 6 session group therapy to help people quit tobacco starting Sept 5.

Today I thought I'd share an article that directly addresses stopping tobacco using hypnosis.  It's a nice little piece and it describes one man's journey, quitting tobacco using hypnosis.  It also chronicles his doubts and skepticism as well.  And - in the end....I'll let you check it out and find out what happened.  It was published in the City Paper in Nashville. It's written by Steven Godfrey.

Here's a link to the article.  http://nashvillecitypaper.com/content/lifestyles/when-attempts-quit-smoking-lead-hypnosis-skepticism-turns-one-day-time

It's a nice short read and written to be a little entertaining.  I do believe if you've ever wanted to quit and are having a hard time with it, like the author, take a glance at this article.  I think it may be eye opening.

If you're in the Phoenix area and frustrated trying to give up the cigs - come to our free informational meeting at the Beyond Today Center, 6pm on August 29th.  We'll be discussing how you too can quit smoking by using hypnosis.  It's painless and easy and the results are amazing and permanent.
We'll also be taking clients for our Free of Tobacco Group at that time.  It's a powerful program that will help you quit for good in 6 weekly sessions.

There's a limit of 10 registrants, so come and sign up or pre register now.  A smoker who goes thru a pack a day on average will save $2500 annually.  The good part....it's only $300 for the entire 6 week program.

Susan and I also work with clients one on one, as well.  So if you'd prefer that method, contact us at the following sites:

Susan Weber's website:  http://www.wellness-elements-susanwebber.com/

I hope you all have a great day.

A New Collaboration at Holistic Therapy Solutions

Hi All,

It's been about a week since my last blog.  I hope you're all doing well.  I've got some good news about an addition to my holistic therapy business.  I'm collaborating with a friend and colleague Susan Weber.  She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our joint venture and I think we're going to be able to help many people deal with some difficult issues in a gentle and easy way.  I'm excited!

Let me tell you what we're doing.  First we're going to be collaborating on a smoking cessation group.  We've also discussed putting some other group programs together that address weight management and stress management.  Here's the thing.  Our groups incorporate the support dynamic of a group and good techniques for people who want to make a change.....and they also include powerful hypnotherapy sessions.

We're kicking it off on the 5th of September with the Free From Tobacco group.  Ideally we want to keep the group at between 8 to 12 participants.  We'll meet each Thursday for 6 consecutive weeks.

Every Thursday we'll all share our experiences on the road to becoming tobacco free, where each participant will receive that reinforcing group support.  Our 3rd Thursday is the evening when participants lay down tobacco with a ceremonial last smoke (or chew).  The last 3 weekly meetings are for reinforcement - thru group discussions and again, the weekly hypnotherapy sessions.

Each participant will receive a CD with a hypnotherapy session recorded on it, to take home and use for self-hypnosis reinforcement, between weekly meetings.  We also have tried and true techniques to help our clients put down the tobacco for good.  We'll discuss and help them implement these on a weekly basis.

We're also offering this at an affordable low rate; early sign up, $300 ($375 at the door).  Considering a pack a day smoker pays between $6 and $8 for a pack of cigarettes - giving up the habit can save a person over $3,000 per year.  Yes, this is going to be an amazing value.

A lot of people are concerned about gaining weight and withdrawl symptoms when giving up smoking.  However, with hypnosis we can speak right to the persons subconcious and address those concerns.  Most people have exceptional results when quitting tobacco with hypnosis.  Yet, some folks are fearful or don't understand hypnosis.  Hypnotherapy is not the stage shows that most people are familiar with.  Hypnotherapy/hypnosis is where you typically lay down and relax.  Thru suggestion, you set aside the concious mind so the therapist can address the changes you want to make in the subconsious mind.  At the same time, if the therapist tried to give you a suggestion that doesn't resonate with your beliefs or intention, it won't work.  You are always in control.  With behaviour modification, if you want to make a change, it's very effective in helping you make that change.

Right now we're fine tuning the details of the program, getting it ready to go.  I'm excited and can't wait.  This is going to be fun.

For more information you can contact us thru my website or Facebook page.  (I'll have information posted on both very soon).  I hope to see some of you there.

Have a great weekend and an excellent week.

Peace,

Tom
